The challenge

Retail clients paid store staff commissions on sales, but Odoo POS had no native way to attribute a sale to a salesperson different from the cashier, or to apply tiered rules by product, category and target.

Commissions were calculated in spreadsheets at month-end, causing disputes and delaying payroll.

Problems & solutions

Problem 1

Attributing sales to the right person

In busy stores, the person who sold the product is often not the cashier who rings it up.

How we fixed it

We extended the POS interface so a salesperson can be selected per order line with a quick-pick list or badge scan, working offline as POS does.

Problem 2

Complex, changing commission rules

Rules varied by brand, category, margin, monthly target and promotions, and changed every season.

How we fixed it

A rule engine supports fixed, percentage, tiered and target-based commissions with priority and validity dates, managed by HR without developer help.

Problem 3

Refunds and exchanges

Returned items still counted toward commission, overpaying staff.

How we fixed it

Refund lines automatically reverse the original commission, even when processed in a different session or store.

What we delivered

  • Salesperson selection per POS order line (offline-capable)
  • Rule engine: fixed, %, tiered, target and margin-based commissions
  • Live commission tracker for staff in POS
  • Automatic reversal on refunds and exchanges
  • Monthly commission sheets posted to payroll
  • Store and staff leaderboards
