An ERP implementation is a business transformation project disguised as a software project. The technology is rarely what goes wrong. Unclear ownership, dirty data and untested assumptions are.
Across our rollouts we've refined a checklist that we review with every client before kickoff.
Before kickoff
Get these right and the rest of the project becomes predictable.
- Name a business owner for every module, not just an IT contact
- Agree on the 5–7 KPIs the ERP must improve
- Freeze the chart of accounts and product categorisation early
- Audit master data quality before migration, not during
During the build
Configure first, customise second. Every customisation should be justified by a measurable business outcome and built in an upgrade-safe way.
- Run demos every two weeks
- Write test scripts from real transactions
- Train super-users early so they can train others
Go-live and beyond
Plan a rehearsed cut-over, a short hypercare window and a backlog of automation opportunities for phase two. That's where ERP pays for itself.
